Equal Rights Now - Organisation against Women’s Discrimination in Iran has been established to promote women’s freedom, emancipation and equality between women and men in the social, economic and political arenas as well as to strive for an end to sexual discrimination.
Equal Rights Now belongs to a vast social movement against sexual discrimination and oppression in Iran, which is daily gaining strength and momentum. Unifying, organising and strengthening this movement are immediate tasks for our organisation.
Equal Rights Now also belongs to the international movement for the emancipation of women from all forms of inequality and discrimination; it depends on this international movement for its success.
Equal Rights Now invites women and men to join the organisation and support its aims.
Equal Rights Now is founded on the following principles:
1. Unconditional elimination of all types of discrimination and oppression against women and the achievement of full equality between women and men in society.
2. Absolute separation of religion from the state and educational system.
3. Freedom of choice in clothing and the elimination of compulsory veiling and sexual apartheid.
4. Opposition to patriarchy and all misogynist national-Islamic traditions.
5. Uniting the women’s liberation movement around secular, radical and egalitarian demands.
6. Organising the women’s liberation movement and uniting its activists to establish a strong leadership and far-reaching organisation.
7. Promoting the women’s liberation movement in Iran internationally and mobilising support for it amongst supporters of women’s rights, secular, left and progressive organisations and individuals.
